Another person who braved that horrifying game! I have to say ive played Doom3 and the demo of F.E.A.R completely blows Doom3 out of the water on a scary level. And the little girl! Gahhh! Im never climbing down a ladder again without double checking no one is there. :P Even though i hate scary games i might just buy this one.

Eh, I liked DOOM 3 better. To me, it was a hell of alot scarier with all the dark. Plus, I'm a die hard DOOM fan :P I still play DOOM II x.x

I saw my roommate play the F.E.A.R. demo last night. Needless to say, he's buying it. From the demo, it seemed it would be much freakier than Doom 3 (which I had a lot of fun playing)
The problem with Doom 3 is that about halfway through the game, when monsters would spawn, I was one that learned I didn't have to run...I could just stand in front of them and blow them away when the appeared.
The freakiness started getting old and predictable. After the first half of the game it didn't really mess with your head anymore...you just got used to it. But I loved the game, don't get me wrong. I was also disappointed by the final fight. Way too easy.

Not quite sure what you're talking about. The release date is set for 11/15 and the multiplayer beta has been out for a while for those who were lucky enough to get in.

Doom3 gave me a massive godamned migraine with all those sudden lighting changes. One second it's kinda dim, then suddenly it's pitch freaking black, then it's RED STROBE LIGHT RED STROBE LIGHT, IN MY FACE AT MAX INTENSITY, then monsters appear...uggg, just thinking about it makes my temples throb. Played the demo for all of about 40 minutes, got my headache, quit the demo, uninstalled, and never looked back. Whoever designed the lighting scheme for their maps should be punched in the throat repeatedly. HARD.

I don't recall any red strobe lights in the game really, I remember the room just going blood red every now and then while you hear a skin-shifting laugh from Hell, but never red strobe lights, I'm sure of it. Also, the lighting in Doom 3 is about as close as you'll get to real life right now. That stuff was the shit, the only thing that was a little unrealistic was some shadows being pitch black, but that only happened because there was no real-time "rebound" light off of objects, so to speak. I mean yeah there were lights going out constantly, but it's Doom 3!
Either way, good thing you tried the demo first.
Downloading this fear thing now, better be good.

Well hell, I dunno, maybe they were WHITE strobe lights. Whatever. Sure as hell isn't anything close to real life, last I saw(heh) real-life lighting doesn't give me godamned agonizing headaches. Lemme check that. Yep, there's lighting here(and some dark areas too) but it doesn't hurt my skull. I call BS on doom3's lighting. Tetris has more realistic lighting.
I still stand by my statement that whoever designed doom3's lighting should be punched in the throat, although I will amend it to include the notion that they should also be kicked in the back of the head a couple 5 or 10 times, too, just so's we're equal.

Oh please, now you're just being ignorant. No white strobe lights either, just real-time lighting that's more advanced than in any other game released thus far.
I personally get a headache and some eye pains from real-life light (sunlight, etc) but not so much from a computer screen. (bad photophobia sucks major ass).
Headaches don't mean you're looking at shit, sometimes it means you're looking at brilliance.

Headaches are one thing. Migraine headaches are something else entirely. We're talking a headache that simply WILL NOT GO AWAY, and pretty well leaves you unable to function normally. I get headaches, occasionally, from real-world lighting. But migraines? I don't get those. Doom3 gave me one though. I don't care how damned advanced your real-time lighting is, it shouldn't be giving that bad of a headache. Brilliant shit is still shit. And if it's giving me a headache that 4 ibuprofen(which works wonders on pretty much everything for me) doesn't even make a dent, it's definitely shit. Hurtful, painful shit.
And give me a godamned break, you think I am going to remember from over a year ago exactly what type of lighting it was that left me in excruciating pain? Get Bent.

If you can play DOOM you can play F.E.A.R. I'm pretty sure. DOOM 3 is a great engine, probally a little better than Source due to it's lighting and bump mapping, but it does take one helluva rig to get working.

Just played this. The Monolith team and Sierra have been busy with the NOLF engine. Awesome improvements since NOLF 2! Will buy this the day it's released, very chilling.
